History
The group began in 1966 with a benefit performance to raise money for the local Red Cross and its water rescue service (Wasserwacht). The curtain first rose on 28 July 1966 with the play Feuerwehrsitzung. Soon afterwards 21 people founded a theatre group at the former Café Schlamp on the Herrsching lake promenade, recording the founding on the back of a menu, and the first general meeting was held on 1 August 1966 at the Hotel Andechser Hof, where Hans Scholz was elected chairman.[1]
The hall of the Andechser Hof became the group's home stage. Under the chairmanship of Paul and Heidi Stettner (1972–1981) it made its first tours, to Schillingsfürst, Gauting, Dießen and Gunzenhausen. In 1982, under chairman Heinz Gruczek, it was invited by the federal minister for development aid, Rainer Offergeld, to perform the play Die Entwicklungshilfe at the Hessian state representation in Bonn before politicians and journalists. The same play was later shown in Kitzingen, the start of many guest performances there. The group acquired its own traditional costume and, in 1990, a banner.[2]
The old theatre hall was demolished in 1997 and replaced by a new hotel complex with a cultural hall, where the first play, Peter Landstorfer's s'Elädrische, was staged in 1999. The association was entered in the register of associations in Starnberg on 15 January 2001.[2] In 2026 it celebrated its 60th anniversary; by then it had been led by nine chairs.[1]
Repertoire
The association says it aims to perform rooted, regional plays with substance rather than slapstick, alongside crime and boulevard plays such as Bleib cool, Mama.[2][1] The children's group Ammerseer-Theaterzwerge was revived in 1998 and performs each spring; from it grew the Ammerseer-Theater-Jugend. The improvisational theatre group ImproVaria performs without a set text.[2]
