History

The association was founded in 1920 by Wilhelm Lilge, its first chairman, and eleven other members. Theatre was its main activity from the start, and carnival was added later. Its first plays and carnival sessions took place in the Deutsches Haus (the former Gasthaus Obek) in Hankensbüttel; the very first production was Paul Heyse's historical drama Kolberg, set during the siege of Kolberg in 1807. The association's activities rested from 1938 to 1949 because of the Second World War.[1]

In 1955 the children's and youth group Bühnenspatzen was founded, which performed a play shortly before Christmas each year, beginning with Zauberschlaf im Märchenwald. For the association's 50th anniversary in 1970 the Ohnsorg-Theater gave a guest performance of Dat stohlen Glück. In 1995 the BSV moved to the Gasthaus Olvermann "Zur Linde".[1] Its 2020 centenary production, the self-written musical revue Früher war alles besser! Oder?, was postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic and staged in October 2022 with more than 80 performers aged from 4 to over 90.[3]

Repertoire

The association's productions range from comedies and crime plays to musicals and children's theatre.[2] The carnival sessions include dances, songs, sketches and carnival speeches, with a junior section.[2]
