The Bürgertheater Regensburg e. V. is a community theatre association in Regensburg, Upper Palatinate, Germany. It emerged in 2013 from a project of the Theater Regensburg and was constituted as a non-profit association in 2015. Unlike most amateur groups, it develops its own plays on Regensburg themes, with professional support from the Theater Regensburg.[1]
History
The Bürgertheater was formed in 2013 on the initiative of the Theater Regensburg for the anniversary "350 years of the Perpetual Diet", when a group of 50 amateur actors developed a sequence of scenes about the meeting of the envoys. After sold-out performances, a non-profit association was founded in early 2015.[1] In 2019 it staged Im Goldenen Kreuz – Hotelgeschichten.[2]
Repertoire
The association chooses a theme connected with Regensburg for each production and performs at venues related to it.[1] In July 2026 it premiered Heut is diesig, a play commissioned from Annalena Küspert about a river cruise ship moored in Regensburg that loses track of time, with episodes from the history of the Danube. It was directed by Bettina Schönenberg and performed in the festival hall of the Kolpinghaus in Regensburg.[2]
Organisation
The association's aims include bringing together people of all ages through music, dance and drama.[1]
Awards
On 13 November 2024 the association received the Kulturförderpreis 2024 (culture promotion prize) at a ceremony in the Theater Regensburg; the laudatory speech was given by Stephanie Junge, drama director of the Theater Regensburg.[3]
