History

The group's first rehearsal took place outdoors: in autumn 1969 Manfred Girschikofsky, Winfried Hamann, Wolfgang Weisser and Peter Kelichhaus met for a first reading on a meadow in Vöhringen. The Protestant pastor Wilhelm Starck then let them rehearse in his parish hall, where in February 1970 the group premiered its first production, Sławomir Mrożek's political satire Auf hoher See (Out at Sea). By its 50th anniversary in 2019 the group had staged more than 150 further plays, with around 170 performers in over a thousand roles, and had performed several plays every year without interruption; at that time 20 players were active. Founder Peter Kelichhaus directed every production and acted in almost all of them over these 50 years; he died on 17 April 2021.[1]

Repertoire and venue

The repertoire has ranged from classics to modern plays, famous crime plays and current boulevard theatre.[1] Its home stage is the hall of the Protestant parish house in Vöhringen, which the parish has provided since the beginning. In autumn 2026 the group performed Stefan Vögel's comedy Alonso, der Eheschnüffler, directed by Siggi Motzke, in Vöhringen and at the historic municipal theatre in Weißenhorn.[2]

Organisation

All members of the Theaterspielkreis Podium 70 work as volunteers. The supporting association Förderverein PODIUM-Bühne Vöhringen e. V. raises funds for the venue, props, scripts and performance rights.[3]
