History
Lay theatre has been played in Wutschdorf-Freudenberg since 1947, at first in the old Romwirtsaal and from the 1950s in the new parish hall in Wutschdorf; open-air performances and guest performances in neighbouring villages were given early on. From 1963 Martin Solfrank directed the group, then part of the Wutschdorf Landjugend; Walter Daubenmerkl led it from 1976 to 1981 and Reinhold Escherl from 1982 to 1989. The group took the name Freudenberger Bauernbühne in 1985, and in the 1980s, which the club regards as its most successful period up to then, it regularly gave guest performances in Amberg, Hirschau, Großenpfalz and Schwandorf. In the 1990s, under Benno Schißlbauer, performances took place only in Wutschdorf.[1]
From the 50th anniversary year 1997 the group regularly staged a spring and an autumn play, and in March 1998 the association Freudenberger Bauernbühne e. V. was founded; it has since grown to more than 350 members. Open-air productions of Der Brandner Kaspar und das ewig' Leben in 2002, 2006, 2012 and 2018 were highlights, and members took part in other projects such as the castle festival in Leuchtenberg, the Vilstheater 2006 and the Amberger Welttheater on the Mariahilfberg in Amberg (since 2009). In 2014 Michi Vogt founded the youth group Junge Bühne Freudenberg; a children's group has also been established.[1]
Venues
The club performs in the parish hall in Wutschdorf. Since 2014 it has rented the old Stechweber-Hof farm in Wutschdorf, which serves as its costume and prop store and, since 2015, as the venue for its open-air productions.[2][3]
Repertoire
The repertoire consists mainly of Bavarian farces, complemented by crime-dinner evenings, Christmas plays and productions by the youth group.[4]
