The Heimatbühne Rosenheim e. V. is an amateur theatre association in Rosenheim, Upper Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1991 as a successor to the former Rosenheim Heimatbühne of Franz Wild, it stages mainly cheerful comedies in Bavarian dialect, usually two productions a year, in the multi-purpose hall of the sports club Freie Turnerschaft Rosenheim.[1][2]
History
In 1991 ten citizens of Rosenheim had the idea of founding a successor to the Rosenheim Heimatbühne of Franz Wild. They met on 21 December 1991 to found the Heimatbühne Rosenheim with the aim of performing mainly cheerful plays in Bavarian dialect; membership soon grew to 22, and on 20 February 1992 the association was entered in the register of associations of the Rosenheim local court. Its first production, Werner Linz's Der wurmstichige Hochzeiter, directed by Traudl Kohlberger, premiered on 13 March 1992 in the hall of the "Alter Wirt" in Riedering.[1][3]
In winter 1992/93 the group built its own stage in the inn "Beflügeltes Rad" in Rosenheim's Küpferlingstraße, with support from the entrepreneur Anton Kathrein and a donation in kind from a timber company; from then on it staged one play each spring and autumn. Its first production there, Die pfiffige Urschl (1993), was extended by an extra performance day. The group later moved to the multi-purpose hall of the Freie Turnerschaft Rosenheim and drew about 2,000 spectators a year. When the Freie Turnerschaft built its new clubhouse in 2018, the Heimatbühne financed a modular stage through a fundraising campaign and made it available to all clubs in the building. During the COVID-19 pandemic it performed Gerhard Loew's Mitten bei der Nacht in 2021 on an open-air stage in the club's beer garden. In 2023 it staged a Bavarian version of an English boulevard farce for the first time, and in summer 2025 it took part in the first Rosenheimer Theaterwoche, an open-air week with seven associations.[1]
Repertoire
The association has staged a spring and an autumn production in most years since 1993, with no production in 2020 and only one in several other years. Its authors include Franz Schaurer, Ulla Kling, Peter Hinrichsen, Erfried Smija and, more recently, Ralph Wallner.[3] A share of the proceeds of each performance goes to charitable projects in the town and district of Rosenheim.[4]
