History
The association's play Ludewig der Strenge tells how in 1256 the Wittelsbach duke Ludwig the Strict had his wife Maria of Brabant beheaded on suspicion of adultery and, when her innocence was proven soon afterwards, founded the Cistercian monastery "on the prince's field" (Fürstenfeld) as atonement. The association first staged this founding story in 2004 before more than 4,000 spectators in six sold-out performances. For the 750th anniversary of Maria of Brabant's death it revived a revised version in 2006; a further revised version was performed five times in 2011 as part of the tenth anniversary of the Veranstaltungsforum Fürstenfeld, and the play was performed again in 2013 for the 750th anniversary of Fürstenfeld Abbey.[1]
