History
The Kemnather Passion premiered on 1 March 2008 as one of the highlights of Kemnath's millennium celebrations; more than 4,000 tickets for the six performances in the multi-purpose hall had been sold beforehand, and the Bishop of Regensburg, Gerhard Ludwig Müller, was expected at the premiere.[1] The play was revived in 2013 in a new production directed by Thomas Linkel, with an ensemble of 160 people on stage and a 90-voice passion choir under Josef Zaglmann; it opened on 9 March 2013 and ran for seven performances up to Good Friday. A 64-page illustrated book with photographs of the production was printed in 7,000 copies and given to spectators free of charge.[3]
Venue
The passion play is performed in the multi-purpose hall (Mehrzweckhalle) in Kemnath.[1][3]
