History
The group grew out of a circle of young theatre enthusiasts who performed a one-act play for the 125th anniversary of the Kolpingsfamilie Bad Kreuznach in 1984. They continued to play afterwards; in 2019 the group had 20 members.[2] In 2019 a new team of three directors took over the direction of the group.[3] After a three-year break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the group returned to the stage in May 2023.[4] In October 2024 it marked its 40th anniversary with a jubilee production, played to a full hall on all three evenings.[5]
Repertoire
The group stages one comedy a year, with three or four performances per production.[2][6] In 2019 it staged Neurosige Zeiten by Winni Abel.[3] In 2023 followed Senioren Roulett, a comedy in three acts by Jennifer Hülser,[6] and for the 40th anniversary in 2024 Halleluja – wenn am Himmelstor die Technik streikt, a comedy in four acts by Jochen Matthies.[7] In 2025 the group performed Ein Marder im Dach hätte auch gereicht, a comedy in two acts by Janine Temmhoff.[8] Further performances were scheduled for 23–25 October 2026.[9]
Venue
The group performs in the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Haus on Kurhausstraße in Bad Kreuznach, next door to the Kolpingsfamilie.[2][8]
Organisation
Komödienkiste is the theatre group of the Kolpingsfamilie Bad Kreuznach, a local branch of the Catholic Kolping Society.[1][2]
