History

After preliminary talks in the summer of 1992 about founding a cultural association in the municipality, 25 interested people met on 23 November 1992 in the Café Bressler and founded the association under the name DorfArt. The first regular members' meeting (Stammtisch) took place on 13 January 1993, and these meetings have since been held every fortnight. The first official event was a Glühweinlesung (mulled-wine reading) on 6 February 1993, a format the association has continued in modified form. In 1993 the association also took part in the Laetare parade in Iggelheim for the first time, under the motto Das andere Gesicht, and set the pattern that still shapes its work: six events per season (autumn to spring), cabaret, readings and music, trips to exhibitions, and participation in local activities.[3]

Repertoire

The association does not stage its own plays; it presents regional and nationally known guest artists, mostly in cabaret, music cabaret, comedy, chanson and readings. Guests have included the Chawwerusch Theater.[3][4] The 2018/19 season, for example, comprised a crime reading, a chanson evening, piano cabaret, a political cabaret review of the year and a concert; all events could be booked as a subscription with the DorfArt-Kulturcard.[5] The 2026/27 season runs from October 2026 to March 2027 with six events.[6]

Members of the association appear as a costumed group with self-made masks and costumes in the annual Laetare parade in Iggelheim.[3] At the 2019 parade, which opened the municipality's anniversary year marking the 1969 merger of Böhl and Iggelheim, the group staged a mock demonstration satirising old prejudices between the two villages.[7]
