History
Theatre was played in Fuchsmühl's inns in the post-war years. When the new youth centre (Jugendheim) was completed in 1960, the teacher Alfons Bösl and Pater Thaddäus Gößmann of the Augustinian monastery formed a group of 19 people that performed the one-act play Der Knopf im Klingelbeutel at its inauguration, the start of the Laienspielgruppe. On 19 October 1961 the group adopted statutes and elected Andreas Lindner as its first chairman, with Bösl as director; regular performances began with Frau Pilatus. In 1974 it took part in a film by the Munich film school about the 1894 Holzschlacht (a revolt over forest rights), shown at the festivals in Hof and Mannheim and on Bayerischer Rundfunk.[1]
In 1980 the group premiered Theo Schaumberger's Holzschlacht play s' Recht is unsa on the open-air stage at the Hackelstein in the Fuchsmühl forest, repeating it in 1984 with a guest performance in the later partner municipality St. Leonhard in Passeier in South Tyrol; Schaumberger's Fuchsmühler Passion followed in 1986 in the pilgrimage church. A youth group was founded in 1990, and in 2002 young members formed the "Theaterfüchse". On 31 January 2004 the general meeting decided to turn the group into a registered association. In 2004, for the 110th anniversary of the Holzschlacht, s' Recht is unsa was revived at the Hackelstein before more than 1,000 spectators. For the 750th anniversary of the first documentary mention of Fuchsmühl in 2009 the group staged In Fuchsmühl ist der Teufel los by Wolfgang Benkhardt in the castle, and for its 50th anniversary in 2010 it revived the passion play after a break of more than 20 years.[1]
Repertoire
The group plays mainly Bavarian comedies and folk plays, together with historical plays on local themes and plays by its youth groups.[1][2]
