History
The ensemble was formed in the second half of 2004 as a theatre course, and later theatre group, of the Volkshochschule Rhön-Grabfeld, a folk high school. In 2008 the members decided to become an independent association. The name is taken from MET, the abbreviation of Mellrichstadt and the town's vehicle registration code, which had been reintroduced.[1] During the COVID-19 lockdown the group held a digital premiere titled Krisenmanagement; a double bill for young and old audiences under the title Tierisch, with Ein Schaf fürs Leben and Fabula Rasa, had to be postponed.[1]
Repertoire
The group's repertoire ranges from farce and boulevard comedy (Ray Cooney, Neil Simon) to contemporary German plays by Lutz Hübner and political drama. Besides its productions it runs the reading series Mellrichstadt liest.[1] The regional press praised Jetzt nicht, Liebling (2011) and Gretchen 89 ff. (2012); the Main-Post wrote of the refugee chamber play Lampedusa (2016) that one wondered where the difference to a professional theatre lay.[1][2]
