The Neue Tettauer Theatergruppe e. V. is an amateur theatre and musical association in Tettau in the district of Kronach, Upper Franconia, Germany. Founded in 2007, it stages plays and, through its Theater & Musicalensemble Tettau, musical revues with live singing and dance, with its home stage in the Tettau Festhalle.[1][2]
History
Tettau had earlier had an unregistered theatre group that staged a play every year. Its final production was a Tettauer Passionsspiel, organised with the Protestant parish, which drew several hundred spectators; afterwards its leader stopped and the group broke up. The new group grew out of a duo: Benjamin Baier and Markus Eckardt, who had made music together since childhood, became popular with parodies as "Gerda und Gitta". With like-minded people they founded the Neue Tettauer Theatergruppe in 2007, which was entered in the register of associations in 2008. Its first play, Versicherungsbüro Herzklopfen, followed in 2009. Since then Benjamin Baier has led the ensemble, with a short interruption.[1]
Besides Brandner Kasper, the group mostly performs well-known plays from radio and television. In 2010 a sub-group, the Theater & Musicalensemble, was formed and became active in 2012, beginning with the Christmas musical Der Geist der Weihnacht; it later added a dance group. The association describes the ensemble as semi-professional in quality, although all participants work on a voluntary basis.[1][2]
Musical productions
The musical ensemble stages adaptations of well-known musicals and its own productions, often with about two years of planning and a year of rehearsal, and performs at the Tettau Festhalle, the Kreiskulturraum in Kronach, the Gesellschaftshaus in Sonneberg, the Haus des Volkes in Probstzella and, since spring 2025 with the show Musical meets Movie, the Stadthalle in Kulmbach. In autumn 2025 it performed with live instrumentalists for the first time.[2] At a benefit concert on Whit Monday 2025 in the church of St. Laurentius in Buchbach, it sang songs from Elisabeth, Der Medicus and Tanz der Vampire to a full church and raised about €3,000 for a new organ.[2] Its current show, Die zauberhafte Musicalnacht, presents scenes and songs from film classics.[3]
Organisation
The group runs youth work, with twelve young people active in 2024, and donates the proceeds of its annual Christmas revues to the Sternstunden charity of Bayerischer Rundfunk.[1]
