The Schönenfelder Volksbühne e. V. is an amateur theatre association in Niederschönenfeld in the district of Donau-Ries, Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1982, it stages one production a year, with performances in November.[1][2]

History

The group was initiated by Marianne and Erich Steiner, who had moved to Niederschönenfeld and had acted for many years with the Dramatischer Club Alpenröserl in Munich. In 1982 they called for the formation of a theatre group in the municipal newsletter. Erich Steiner was for many years the association's chairman and director, and Marianne Steiner acted and served as prompter; she was later made an honorary member.[3]

The founding meeting took place on 5 February 1982, and the first evening of performances, together with the church choir and an accordion group, followed on 8 May 1982. The association was entered in the register of associations on 25 September 1982 and on 1 November 1982 joined the Volksspielkunstverband Bayern as its 183rd stage. It honoured its 10,000th visitor in 1991, its 20,000th in 2004 and its 25,000th in 2012, and celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2007. In 2001 it opened a new make-up and common room.[1]

Repertoire

The season culminates in performances in November, preceded by read-throughs in spring, regular rehearsals and intensive rehearsal weekends in September.[2] Its 2025/26 production was the crook comedy Arsène Lupin und das Collier der Königin, featuring the gentleman thief Arsène Lupin on a train from Paris to Venice.[4]

Venue

In 2024 the group's performances took place in the Bürgerhaus of Niederschönenfeld.[5] Catering is provided by the Gasthof Neuwirt.[4]
