History
The group was founded in 1967 as an amateur theatre of the Catholic parish of St. Konrad in Landshut and began with short pieces. It played in the parish of St. Konrad until 1984 and moved to the parish of St. Peter und Paul in 1986, a change the association describes as temporary.[1][2] In 1985 it gave a guest performance in Landshut's twin town Ried im Innkreis, Austria.[2]
The group celebrated its 30th anniversary in 1997 and its 40th in 2007. In 2002 it gave the first performance of Ich bin lieber Zigeuner, a text revue after Ludwig Thoma by Gerd Thumser. In 2009 it appeared at the Landshut Wedding festival, and members of the group joined the board of the newly founded Lower Bavarian district association of the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater e. V. Several benefit evenings and donations from performance proceeds went to local charities.[2] Around 2011 a younger leadership team formed around the long-time director, with the declared aim of attracting young people to the theatre.[3]
Since 2018 younger members have directed productions such as Das Gespenst von Canterville, Der Wunschpunsch and Der Horla.[1] In autumn 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the group performed two small-cast comedies with a hygiene concept and a reduced audience.[4] According to the association, its productions run for about seven performances on average and draw more than 900 spectators each.[1]
Repertoire
The association's programme follows the motto "Abwechslung und Qualität" (variety and quality). It has included Bavarian folk plays such as Der Hunderter im Westentaschl by Max Neal and Max Ferner, plays by Ludwig Thoma such as Erster Klasse, Gelähmte Schwingen and Magdalena, and classics such as Molière's Tartuffe, Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Dürrenmatt's Der Besuch der alten Dame.[1] In 1983 it also staged a play on the Brandner Kaspar legend.[5] Since the 2010s it has added family plays and adaptations of children's and young-adult novels, and in some years it has staged two productions. In December 2025 it also gave two Christmas programmes with short comedies.[2][6]
