History
The group grew out of the village's Landfrauen (rural women's association), who wanted a play for their 25th anniversary and gathered a cast from the village; the first productions proved so successful that the group continued.[4] To put the group on a formal and legal footing, eight founding members applied for registration as an association, which took effect on 4 January 2002.[4]
The name Bredder-Tredder is dialect for Bretter-Treter, "board treaders", alluding to the boards that mean the world.[4] Because the effort had become a strain for some members, the group took a break from performing in 2007. It returned in 2008 and decided to stage a production only every second year from then on.[4]
Repertoire
The group performs plays in dialect, mostly Eifelplatt.[3] In 2018 its website listed productions for 2000, 2002 to 2006, and every second year from 2010 to 2016.[5] The members build their own stage sets, which reproduce interiors typical of the region, and paint the backdrops themselves, often with views of Duppach. According to the group, the premiere of each production is reserved for an audience of people with disabilities.[6]
