History
Theatre has a long tradition in Oberreitnau: the chronicles of almost all local clubs report performances, first in the hall of the Gasthof Adler and, after the First World War, in the gymnasium, which had been built as an emergency military hospital and became known as the Oberreitnauer Kulturstadel. In the 1950s and 1960s the local rural youth (Landjugend) and the male voice choir took turns staging dramatic folk plays, followed by a short farce.[1]
After a break from 1968, theatre resumed in 1974, now as a separate group within the Oberreitnauer Singgemeinschaft; after the Kulturstadel was demolished the performances moved to the new Freizeitzentrum. In 2002 the Theatergruppe Oberreitnau became an independent association.[1]
