History
In 1969 the Catholic youth centre in Gaimersheim, which had a small stage, served as a meeting place for several youth groups. Some of the young people began to act there, starting with the two one-act plays Ein Knopf im Klingelbeutel and Der 13. muß kein Freitag sein. Encouraged by the audience, they staged further plays and also performed in neighbouring villages.[1]
By 1972 the group had 22 players. In September 1972 they decided to form a Theaterbund and elected Wolfgang Straube as first chairman. From then on the group gave annual performances, whose proceeds went mainly to charitable causes such as building a kindergarten or renovating the youth centre. A few years after the founding the club also began holding a theatre ball during carnival. Under a later chairman it joined the Volksspielkunstverband Bayern, the forerunner of today's Bavarian association, and the Bund Deutscher Amateurtheater (BDAT).[2]
The club celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2002 with a ceremonial Patenbitten in Weiden, the consecration of a club flag during the Gaimersheim folk festival, and a gala evening in the school hall on 21 September. At the gala a representative of the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater spoke, and the club's sponsoring association, D'lustigen Konrader, the Schanzer Volksbühne from Ingolstadt and local music and costume clubs took part.[4][5]
Repertoire
The group mainly performs Bavarian folk comedies (Lustspiele). Productions listed in its chronicle include Das Wunder des heiligen Florian (1970), Die Wahllumpen and Irrlinger Roß'gschichten (both 2002).[6][4] In 2025/26 it staged the three-act comedy Hüttenzauber und andere Geheimnisse by Heidi Mager, with performances between 26 December and 4 January, most of them sold out.[3]
Venue
Performances take place in gymnasium A of the Gaimersheim primary school. The club has its own clubhouse (Theaterheim).[3]
Organisation
Besides the theatre, the club takes part in local events such as the carnival parade and the Gaimersheim folk festival, where its youth section offers face painting. In 2024/25 the theatre performances were sold out on six evenings, according to the report of the 2025 general meeting.[7]
