The Deutsches Gehörlosen-Theater (DGT; German Deaf Theatre) is a theatre association of deaf performers that stages classical and contemporary plays in German Sign Language for deaf and hearing audiences. Founded in 1949 in Dortmund, it was later based in Berlin and from 2005 in Munich.

History
According to its managing director Traudel (Gertraud) Sailer, the DGT was founded in Dortmund in 1949, later moved its seat to Berlin, and has been based in Munich under her direction since 2005. In 2009 the company had been producing a new play almost every year for around 60 years, ranging from Greek tragedies and classics to modern plays. It has no permanent ensemble; deaf actors from all over Germany are cast for each production and come together for rehearsals, which in 2009 took place at the deaf centre in Munich. Heinz A. Feuerbaum was the theatre's director and stage director for many years.

Repertoire
The DGT describes sign language and deaf culture as the foundation of its work. Its productions are shown with surtitles, with interpreters or with "shadow actors" who speak the text for hearing audiences.

* 2016–2018: Armer Truffaldino!, after Carlo Goldoni's The Servant of Two Masters, directed by Zoe Xanthopolou.
* 2026: Pinocchios, a drama about identity, morality and exclusion directed by Eyk Kaulisky, developed with the whole team as equal protagonists; it opened at the Theater Leo 17 in Munich on 21 February 2026 before touring. The production was supported by Aktion Mensch, among others.
