Petermännchen-Theater Westerburg is an amateur theatre group based in Westerburg, Westerwaldkreis, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Founded in 1992, it stages comedies, family fairy-tale plays and youth productions in its own theatre, the "Kleines Haus" in Rothenbach.

History
For the town's 700th anniversary ("700 Jahre Stadt Westerburg") in 1992, the legend of the Petermännchen was performed in open-air productions. In the same year, some theatre enthusiasts and actors from this production founded the Petermännchen-Theater Westerburg. A youth department was started in 1996 with a workshop in the hall of the local Gymnasium, and in 2005 a senior theatre group named "Patina" was formed within the association.

For its 15th anniversary in 2007, the group held a jubilee programme whose main event was a new production of the historical play Das Westerburger Petermännchen by Christoph Kloft. It was given four open-air performances at Westerburg Castle, the original setting, and four further performances in the town hall (Stadthalle), with a total audience of more than 1,000. The SWR programme Landesschau featured the theatre in Rothenbach in its series Hierzuland.

Repertoire
According to its own account, the group stages between two and four productions a year. The repertoire consists mainly of boulevard comedies and family fairy-tale plays for the pre-Christmas season; the youth department has its own productions and also takes part in the fairy-tale plays.

Venue
The group performs in its own theatre, the "Kleines Haus" in Rothenbach, which was converted from the village's old school building in 2000/2001 together with the Verbandsgemeinde Westerburg and the Ortsgemeinde Rothenbach. The hall has partly raised, tiered seating; the group gives 120 seats, the regional tourism portal 130. Besides the group's own performances, the venue hosts cabaret and other small-scale performances by guest artists, organised with Westerburg's cultural officer.

Organisation
According to its website, the association has more than 80 members, about 70 of them active, including 20 children and young people. The youth department grew out of workshops held in 1996 and 2001; since 2002 it has held monthly practice workshops for children aged 8 to 14, and its productions are directed by young adult members who themselves started in the youth group. The senior theatre group "Patina" has existed within the association since 2005.

Awards
In 2005 the group received the prize in the "Kultur" category of the series Wäller Jugend hat Zukunft, presented by the Landrat of the Westerwaldkreis at the district administration in Montabaur, for its youth work.
