History
The association was founded on 16 November 1930 by 17 men at the inn "Zum Lüches" in Rheidt. After the war years, it has performed almost without interruption since 1957, apart from a pause during the COVID-19 pandemic. Its list of winter productions records plays in 1931, 1935, 1936 and 1946, and an annual production from 1957 onwards; in 1963 no play was staged following the death of a cast member.<ref name="winter">Winteraufführungen, Theaterverein 1930 Rheidt e.V., retrieved 14 October 2026. A youth section was founded in 1977. In 2004 a further group, the "U 30", was formed for younger adults; it performed mostly self-written plays with music each spring, while the winter season was reserved for traditional boulevard comedies and folk comedies. Following a change of generations, the adult groups have since merged and now perform together in both spring and winter, using the spring slot to try out new formats. Karl-Heinz Wessel chaired the association from 1978 to 2012; the chair has been held by Markus Linnartz since 2022.

Repertoire
The winter productions are mostly comedies and farces, among them Die spanische Fliege (2008), Der wahre Jakob (1982 and 2013), Erich Kästner's Drei Männer im Schnee (2018) and Aufstand in Pumps (2025); the association also stages plays written by its own members. In spring 2023 it tried a new format, Wer ist der Täter?: two crime stories by Stefan Keller, presented as a mixture of reading and acting with live sound effects, in which the audience was asked to guess the culprit.<ref name="rag2023">Theaterverein Rheidt: „Wer ist der Täter?", Rheinische Anzeigenblätter, 19 March 2023, retrieved 14 October 2026. The youth section performs a play for children each September, mostly adaptations of fairy tales and children's classics such as Emil und die Detektive, Pippi Langstrumpf and Der Zauberer von Oz.<ref name="jugend">Jugendaufführungen, Theaterverein 1930 Rheidt e.V., retrieved 14 October 2026. The Theaterverein is a registered association (e. V.).
