The Theaterbühne Fifty-Fifty e. V. is a non-profit association in Erlangen, Middle Franconia, Germany, that runs the fifty-fifty, a small theatre for Kabarett, comedy and music. The theatre opened on 1 April 1989 and seats 130 at small tables.

History
The fifty-fifty was founded by Andreas Büeler together with the Erlangen cabaret artist Klaus Karl-Kraus, who considered that Erlangen needed a small-arts stage (Kleinkunstbühne). A new building for a restaurant and stage was erected on a site by the old town wall near the railway station, and the theatre opened on 1 April 1989. According to the German Wikipedia, the stage started in a converted goods shed of the Erlangen goods station with about 50 seats, and moved to the upper floor of the neighbouring building in the early 1990s.

After the first year the theatre was found not to be financially viable on its own, and the non-profit theatre association was set up; from 1990 the theatre has been financed by membership fees, sponsors and municipal grants. The association's own membership page states that the theatre has been supported by the association since its foundation.

Early guest performers included Harald Schmidt, Tim Fischer, Urban Priol, Bülent Ceylan and Dieter Hildebrandt. Since 2014 a younger management team has run the theatre. In 2021–2022 it was renovated and fitted with a new ventilation system with support from the federal Neustart Kultur programme.

Programme
The fifty-fifty is a guest-performance venue rather than a producing ensemble. Its programme began mainly with (jazz) concerts and theatre guest performances and later shifted towards Kabarett and comedy; it also hosts readings. The German Wikipedia gives 150 to 200 shows a year, which makes it Erlangen's third-largest regularly used cultural venue after the city theatre and the Markgrafentheater. Larger shows are moved to rented halls such as the E-Werk, the Redoutensaal or the Heinrich-Lades-Halle.

Venue
The theatre is at Südliche Stadtmauerstraße 1, about 100 m south of Erlangen station. Parts of the building incorporate the listed town wall of the Huguenot new town. The hall has 130 seats at tables of four and six; catering is provided by a partner restaurant.

Organisation
The Theaterbühne Fifty-Fifty has nearly 320 members, most of them supporting members who receive ticket discounts; the association year runs from April to March.
