Theatergruppe Schischiphusch e. V. is an amateur theatre group based in Hatzenbühl, Germersheim district, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.[1][2] Founded in 1997 as a children's and youth theatre group, it has had an adult ensemble, the Hatzebehler Duwacksbiehn, since 2002 and a children's group since 2016.[3][4][5]
History
The group was founded in June 1997 with six people; after the summer holidays of that year it had 21 children and young people. Its first production, Hänsel & Gretel, with a text written for the occasion, was performed in September 1997, followed by a nativity play at Christmas in the parishes of Hatzenbühl and Minfeld. A first board was elected in March 1998, and in October 1998 the group performed its first large production, Das kleine Gespenst, in the Bürgerhaus in Hatzenbühl in front of about 280 spectators. In 1999 the members were divided into a younger and an older group.[3]
In September 2000 the general assembly decided to register the group as an association; the statute was adopted on 9 November 2000, and the group has since carried the name Theatergruppe Schischiphusch e. V. Its website went online the following day.[4]
As the first members grew older, an adult theatre group was founded on 16 April 2002 in a Hatzenbühl inn by twelve people. Its name, Hatzebehler Duwacksbiehn, was chosen in a competition among the members in March 2003, and it gave its first performance on 5 July 2003 with Die Junggesellenhochzeit.[4][6] From then on the adult ensemble staged one comedy each spring, while the youth group continued with productions in the autumn until 2005.[6][7][8] In 2009 the youth members presented Wann de Pälzer . . ., a Palatine cabaret piece they had developed themselves through improvisation, the group's first production without a written script.[8]
A children's theatre group was formed in late 2016. The group's 20th anniversary was celebrated on 24 September 2017 in a festival tent in Hatzenbühl, where the children's group gave its first performance and the group organised its first theatresports competition between local groups.[5][9] After the adult ensemble's 2019 season in its theatre hall, the hall was closed for renovation; the ensemble returned in April 2026 with Oma gibt Gas, performed in the parish hall.[10][11]
Repertoire
The children's and youth group performed adaptations of children's books and fairy tales, nativity plays at Christmas and short pieces for local festivals, while the Hatzebehler Duwacksbiehn stages comedies, usually with six performances per season.[12][7][5] Several adult productions were set in Hatzenbühl, such as Im siebten Himmel (2010) and Du schon wieder! (2014), and the text of Oma gibt Gas (2026) was adapted with local references.[8][10] From 2003 to 2007 the group also rehearsed a short Christmas piece each year, which it offered to other local associations for their Christmas parties and performed at benefit events.[6][7]

Venue
The adult ensemble plays in a theatre hall (Theatersaal) on the upper floor of the Gasthaus „Zum Pflug“ in Hatzenbühl, a former dance hall that the members converted for the first production in 2003.[6] The larger productions of the youth group were staged in the Bürgerhaus Hatzenbühl.[3][4] While the inn and its theatre hall were being renovated, the 2026 production was rehearsed and performed in the large hall of the Catholic parish centre (Pfarrheim).[10][11]
Organisation
The youth group regularly showed excerpts of its productions at the children's and youth Theatertage of the Südliche Weinstraße district between 1998 and 2004, which included workshops with theatre educators.[3][4][6] In December 2003 the SWR programme Hierzuland broadcast a report on the children's and youth group.[6] The group has taken part in Hatzenbühl's Rosenmontag parade and in local festivals, and has given benefit performances for local institutions and charities.[4][7][8]
