History

The group began in 1991 with the course "Stimme und Bewegung" (voice and movement) for teachers, run by the actor and drama teacher Gerd Zietlow in the theatre room of the IGS Mühlenberg as a project of the Theaterpädagogisches Zentrum. In 1992 the participants formed the Stadtteilbühne Mühlenberg. In 2000 the group became an independent theatre, moved to the Freizeitheim (now Stadtteilzentrum) Ricklingen and renamed itself bühne93. Its productions were also shown in other parts of Hanover, including Kirchrode, Stöcken, the Haus der Jugend and the Freizeitheim Lister Turm. The registered association bühne93 was founded on 13 May 2006.[1]

During the COVID-19 pandemic the group presented its fairy tale Die Ricklinger Stadtmusikanten, freely based on the Town Musicians of Bremen, as a combination of narration and filmed scenes; a production of Agatha Christie's Tod auf dem Nil, planned for April 2020, was postponed several times and staged in May 2022.[2] After a series of murder mystery dinner performances, the group announced a new crime play for spring 2027.[3]

Repertoire

The group's early productions included plays after Woody Allen, Ursula Wölfel, Yevgeny Schwarz, William Shakespeare (Ein Sommernachtstraum, Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor, Was ihr wollt), Curt Goetz, J. B. Priestley, Hugo von Hofmannsthal (Jedermann), Ferdinand Raimund, Carlo Goldoni (Der Fächer) and Molière (Der eingebildete Kranke), as well as its own production Wo geheiratet wird, fallen Späne.[4] For the Ricklinger Sommerspiele at the Edelhof it staged Tilly by Gerd Zietlow and Jedermann; since 2007 its summer plays have also been shown open-air on a farm in Buchholz. Since 2007 the group has produced a winter fairy tale for children each year, performed in the Stadtteilzentrum Ricklingen and the Freizeitheim Linden, and since 2011 also a spring play. It also performs sketch programmes at private and club events.[1]
