History
The group began in 1969, when residents decided to liven up local citizens' meetings with a theatre interlude; that autumn the one-act play Der Hundertjährige was performed. In 1970 the parish priest, Pfarrer Schmid, made the still unfinished parish hall of Mariä Sieben Schmerzen available, and the players built a stage from timber left behind by a construction company. The first three-act play there, Die pfiffige Ursch'l, drew only a small audience over four performances; encouraged by the priest, the group continued, and audiences grew with the next play. When the construction firm reclaimed its timber, a new stage had to be built, and the parish paid for a curtain. In February 1971 the members founded the theatre club Die Lustigen Hasenbergler. Successive parish priests continued to give the club the use of the parish hall. Founding member and chairman Horst Dörr died suddenly in December 1988.[1]
Repertoire
The club performs Bavarian farces each spring and autumn. By its own count it has staged almost 80 three-act plays, three Bayerische Abende (Bavarian evenings), and numerous one-act plays and sketches for Christmas parties and other occasions.[1] Its current production in 2026 was Oh diese Weiber by Heidi Hillreiner, a comedy about a village mayoral election.[2]
Venue
Rehearsals and performances take place in the parish hall of Mariä Sieben Schmerzen, Thelottstraße 28, in Munich.[2][1]
