History

Before the association was founded, the ensemble had already performed the musical Anatevka, John Gay's Bettleroper, Shakespeare's SommerNachtTraum and, in spring 2019, Die Braut des Narren. In November 2019 it celebrated the founding of SüdSpiel e. V. with the theatre collage Tot-Sicher!? at the Feierwerk-Südpolstation. During the COVID-19 pandemic it produced contributions for its own YouTube channel and premiered Nach dem Spiel ist vor dem Spiel … XXL in 2021 as a live stream. It returned to the live stage in May 2022 with August Strindberg's Ein Traumspiel, followed in April 2023 by its own production Schneewittrich. The pre-Christmas potpourri Die Wunderkerze premiered in Advent 2022, and the group has also held two poetry workshops with public presentations.[1]

Repertoire

Martin Decker, an actor, director and lecturer who came to Munich in 1996 to set up the musical theatre course at the Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding and who also works as a pastor, has written several of the musicals staged by the group, including Die Braut des Narren, Lennij and Schneewittrich, and has translated Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Love's Labour's Lost and Gay's Beggar's Opera for the stage.[3] Recent productions include Shakespeare's Verlorene Liebesmüh (2024, six performances at the Südpolstation and an additional performance in Neubiberg),[4] Eine Ansicht des Lebens, an evening on the centenary of Franz Kafka's death (2024),[5] and a new version of Jacques Offenbach's Orpheus in der Unterwelt by Decker and Anna Kruspe.[6] In autumn 2026 the group began rehearsals for a programme marking the centenary of the death of Rainer Maria Rilke.[7]

Venue

The group has no permanent theatre; it performs at venues in the south of Munich, notably the Feierwerk-Südpolstation, and in Neubiberg.[1][4][6]
