History
In autumn 2001 Jürgen Peter, the group's artistic director, had the idea of staging a play in a pub. He chose Die Saupreissn by Fitzgerald Kusz, set in a bar, in which he had once acted at the Theater Hof; rehearsals began in December 2001, and the premiere took place on 27 April 2002.[1] A new play has been added every year since. From a script by his friend Karlheinz Komm about Martin Luther came the idea of extending the pub theatre to churches; Der Fall Luther was selected for the amateur theatre days in Eppelborn (Saarland) in 2006. Elisabeth von Thüringen followed in 2007 as the group's second church production.[1] After a two-year break during the COVID-19 pandemic, the group premiered A Mordsg'schicht in October 2022.[3]
Repertoire
The repertoire combines pub comedies, often in Franconian dialect, with plays for church spaces by Karlheinz Komm, such as Die Nacht von Flossenbürg about the last night of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, performed in the chancel with only a table and two chairs.[1][4][5] Other productions include Advokat Pathelin (premiered at the district meeting of the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater e. V. in Himmelkron), Die Schöpsenreuther Narrenliste (written by Komm for the group), Kusz's Schweig, Bub!, So ein Theater, Passion, Judas, Im weißen Rössl, La Mandragola oder die Liebeswurzel, the Goethe revue Der Faust in der Tasche, Eine Leiche zum Kaffee and the burlesque Theater, Theater! by Tom Müller and Sabine Misiorny (2025).[6][3]
