History
The association was founded on 5 October 1977 at the Gasthof Schoder by thirteen members, with Richard Lindl as first chairman. Its first performance, Christnacht – Herbergssuche in unserer Zeit, took place on 15 December 1977 at an event of the Kulturbund Bad Aibling, directed by Lindl; from March 1978 the Willinger Gmoahof became its venue.[1] In the early 1980s a fundraising appeal in the local newspaper Mangfall-Bote and a grant from the town secured the association's existence.[3] Its children's and youth group has existed since 1988.[4] In 1995 the group staged the Aiblinger Lazarus-Spiel, adapted by Klaus Schönmetzler, as an open-air production at the Prantseck, described in its chronicle as a milestone.[5]
In 2004 members contributed more than 800 hours of work to convert the former auditorium of the Luitpold-Lichtspiele cinema – most recently used as a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses – into the LuLi-Theater, which replaced the Willinger Gmoahof as the group's stage.[2][6] Richard Lindl, who directed numerous productions and the Karl Valentin evenings (Valentinaden), presented his Valentinaden for the last time in March 2020.[7] In October 2014 the town council awarded the association its culture prize, endowed with €2,600.[8] The spring 2020 production was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the group resumed in October 2021; the spring production of 2023 was cancelled after differences with the director.[7][9]

Venue
Since 2004 the association has rented its own house, the LuLi-Theater at Wendelsteinstraße 1 in Bad Aibling, a former cinema hall of the Luitpold-Lichtspiele. It has upholstered seating, a small kitchen for catering and modern lighting and sound; its walls are decorated with paintings by Nikolaus Stigloher showing scenes from earlier productions.[2] Before that, the group played at the Willinger Gmoahof from 1978.[1]
Awards
In October 2014 the town of Bad Aibling awarded the Theater Aibling its Kulturförderpreis (also called Kulturehrenpreis), endowed with €2,600, for outstanding achievements in culture and the arts.[8]
