Theaterfreunde Jedermann is an amateur theatre group based in Dernbach in the Westerwald, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.[1] The group formed in 2001 within the parish of St. Laurentius in Dernbach and stages one full-length play each year, alongside smaller events.[2]
History
The group came together in 2001 to perform Hugo von Hofmannsthal's Jedermann for the centenary of the parish church of St. Laurentius; the play was given over two weeks in the church itself.[2] The production gave the group its name, and Jedermann was staged again in autumn 2006 for the group's fifth stage anniversary.[1]
For its tenth anniversary in 2011 the group invited the professional Hohenloher Figurentheater, which performed Jedermann with rod puppets and a children's piece, Aladin und die Wunderlampe, in Dernbach in January 2011. The anniversary year also included a festive night with a big band at the Unikat Eventhalle in Siershahn in May and the premiere of Das Haus in Montevideo in September.[3]
In 2026 the group marked 25 years with a festive evening at the Bürgerhaus in Wirges in April.[4] Its anniversary production, Frau Jedermann 2026 – 25 Jahre danach, is a play written by a member of the group: a modern version of Jedermann in which the title figure becomes a young female influencer, with some quotations from Hofmannsthal's original worked into the new text.[4][1] It was performed by a cast of twelve, with performances from 23 October to 8 November 2026.[4][5]
Repertoire
According to the group, each season draws more than a thousand spectators.[2] Besides the annual play, its chronicle lists other events, such as a Passionskonzert (2015), a Weinlese and a Festnacht (both 2026); in 2009 it also presented Zu Tisch in biblischer Zeit – Ein Gastmahl.[6][7]
