History
Amateur theatre in the Kessel valley has a long tradition: plays were performed by the fire brigade association in Unterbissingen from at least 1910, and after the Second World War many local clubs staged plays. By the end of the 1960s all clubs in the lower Kessel valley except the Catholic rural youth of Bissingen had given up, partly because the hall in Unterbissingen was closed. In 1990 the youth group's director Manfred Herreiner and other theatre enthusiasts founded a theatre club of their own; 29 people attended the founding meeting at the Gasthaus Krone in Bissingen, and the first board was elected on 18 November 1990. Herreiner led the club and directed its plays until he stepped down for health reasons in 2003; he was made honorary chairman.[1]
Besides the annual play, the club organised a carnival ball, Brettl evenings with theatre, brass music and children's theatre, excursions and contributions to the festivals of other clubs. Its children's and youth theatre group was founded in spring 1994 and performs every summer in Unterbissingen. The club received its own banner at its tenth anniversary in 2000 and later had 320 members, making it the second-largest club in the market town of Bissingen.[1] It celebrated its 25th anniversary in July 2015.[3]
Repertoire
The adult group performs Bavarian-Swabian folk comedies and farces each spring; performances have included two afternoon shows for senior citizens from the districts of Dillingen and Donau-Ries, with a cappella songs by the Graureiher opening each act.[1]
