History
The group grew out of the Catholic rural youth group (Katholische Landjugend) of the Oberweiling parish, whose members regularly performed one-act plays at the senior citizens' Advent celebrations in the 1980s. In 1985 they first presented a full-length three-act comedy, Bartls Hundstage oder der Watschnbaum, directed by the former youth group chairman Wolfgang Schön and supported by the Velburg parish priest Josef Albrecht; its success led to an annual production. Since 2000 the group has been called Theaterfreunde Oberweiling; by 2009 more than 50 amateur actors had taken part. Franz Stauner directed for almost 20 years, followed at the end of 2007 by Franz Brandl.[2]
Until 2013 the Theaterfreunde were an informal association of players, director and helpers. On 1 April 2013, 39 people founded the registered association and adopted a statute. It joined the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater e. V. on 1 January 2014.[2]
Repertoire
The group performs comedies and farces in Bavarian dialect, usually one production a year.[3][4]
