History
The group celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2019. Since 1981 its chairman Karl-Heinz Ottowitz opened each Easter season; the only season missed in that time was 1991, the year of the Gulf War. In anniversary years the programme was often extended, and in 2019 the youth group performed a one-act play before the main production.[1] After a three-year break during the COVID-19 pandemic, the group returned in 2023 under its new head and director Stefan Rankl; Ottowitz, who had directed the productions for 42 years, became honorary chairman.[3]
Repertoire
The adult ensemble performs one Schwank or comedy in three acts each year, opening on Palm Sunday with around six performances over Easter. The youth group (Theaterjugend) contributes short sketches or one-act plays, and since 2012 a brass ensemble has played during the intervals.[1][4][2]
