The International Amateur Theatre Association (AITA/IATA) is the global umbrella organization for amateur theatre, founded in 1952 in Brussels and now headquartered in London. It represents member organizations from about 80 countries across five continents, organized into National and Regional Centres, and is recognized by UNESCO as an NGO with consultative status. AITA/IATA co-organizes the Mondial du Théâtre world festival, held every four years with its World Congress. The German, Austrian, and Swiss national centres belong to the Central Europe Committee (CEC), which also includes countries beyond Central Europe, and co-hosts the World Festival of Children’s Theatre.
