Bernis Bunte Bühne is a small amateur theatre in Wörnitzstein, a district of Donauwörth in the district of Donau-Ries, Bavarian Swabia, Germany. Run by Bernd Berni Zoels and Jürgen Lechner, it presents puppet, paper and cabaret programmes for children and adults.[1][2]

History

Bernd Zoels, born in Berlin in 1962, worked as an acrobat and with Berlin ensembles; from 1990 to 1998 he was active in the Theaterfreunde Wörnitzstein and the Wörnitzstein choral society. In 1997 he made his first mouth puppets and premiered Quatschi Dreckspatz with the youth group of the Theaterfreunde Wörnitzstein.[1][3]

Repertoire

The programmes include puppet shows with the stork Klappi Storch, ventriloquism, an evening of sketches by Loriot performed by Zoels and Lechner, and crime dinners; the group also performs with two barrel organs and tours with its programmes.[1][4] Its paper theatre is based on an 1890 original by the Schreiber printing house; productions include Wilhelm Tell, Die Puppenfee and Max Kruse's Das silberne Einhorn, which was shown in July 2021 at the Werner Egk music school in Donauwörth.[2]

Venue

The theatre in Wörnitzstein seats at most 60 people on a ground-level, adaptable stage. No admission is charged; the theatre relies on donations, part of which go to the charity Kinder wollen leben, spielen, lachen! for seriously and chronically ill children, and the performers receive no fee.[5]
