Brettlbühne Vaterstetten e. V. (also written Brett'lbühne) is an amateur theatre group in Vaterstetten, Bavaria, Germany. It began in 1984 and has been a registered association since 1989. The group performs mainly Bavarian comedies and farces.[1]
History
The theatre group was founded in 1984 by Ingo Mehlich, at first without a name of its own. In its early years membership changed often and rehearsals were held only from time to time. The first public appearance, in 1984, was a self-written sketch at a summer party of the local neighbourhood-help organisation. The first full play followed in 1986 under Hans Konrad, later an honorary member; the club regards this production as the actual beginning of the Brettlbühne. In October 1989 the members decided to form a registered association (e. V.). In 1994 the group replaced its heavy wooden scenery with lighter, free-standing flats of aluminium and plywood.[1]
In 2005 the club had 48 members, and a youth group of about 20 had become part of the programme with its own full-length plays in spring. That year the youth group staged a piece on the period of the Wirtschaftswunder and rock 'n' roll, while the main group performed Deifesgwax, a play about intrigue in politics and business. The club quotes the Süddeutsche Zeitung of 31 October 2005 as writing that with this production the Brettlbühne showed it need not settle for slapstick.[1]
Repertoire
The group usually stages one or two productions a year, mostly Bavarian-dialect comedies, Schwänke and crime comedies, alongside occasional variety evenings (Bunter Abend).[2][3][3]
