The Bunte Bühne Neuötting is the amateur theatre group of the Gebirgstrachten-Erhaltungsverein (GTEV) Edelweiß Neuötting, a traditional costume association in Neuötting in the district of Altötting, Upper Bavaria, Germany. Its origins go back to 1923; it was re-founded in 1948 and by April 2021 had staged 194 plays.[1]
History
The group began in 1923 as the Dramatische Abteilung (drama section) of the GTEV Edelweiss Neuötting, playing in the Stiegler Sommerkeller. In 1938 it was dissolved by the Nazi government and absorbed into the Kraft durch Freude stage. After informal talks in December 1947, twelve people re-founded it at a meeting on 11 March 1948. The first play after the re-founding, Im Himmelhof, was performed on 23 May 1948 in Reischach and later in Altötting; from December 1950 the group played in the newly built Annersaal (Steiner Hof) in Neuötting.[1]
Konrad Stadlbauer, who acted with the group from 1952, directed it from 1963 to 1999 and staged 147 plays in that time. His successor Herbert Holzner led it until 2013; since then directors have alternated. On 1 January 2000 the Bunte Bühne was again incorporated into the costume association. At Christmas 2000, after the Steiner Hof had been demolished, it performed the unabridged version of Der verkaufte Großvater in Neuötting's new Stadtsaal, with Stadlbauer in the title role.[1]
Repertoire
The group mainly performs contemporary comedies, with occasional classics.[1]
