Cortez MusikTheater (CMT) is an amateur music theatre association from Salzgitter, Lower Saxony, Germany, which rehearses and performs at the Brunsviga cultural centre in Braunschweig.[1][2] It stages comedies with live music, adding German-language songs to the plot.[3][2]

History

Cornelia and Arno Cordes founded the theatre in 2007 and found fellow players through a notice posted at the Brunsviga; their idea was a cross-generational music theatre. In 2019 the group had 14 performers aged 15 to 77, four instrumentalists and many helpers, all amateurs; Cornelia Cordes directed and Arno Cordes adapted the scripts and music. Its eighth production, Aktokov (2019), moved Ray Cooney's Funny Money from London to Braunschweig, with the body found in the Oker instead of the Thames, and was funded by the Richard Borek Stiftung.[2]

Repertoire

The group's list of productions also includes two earlier projects of its members, a play from 1996 and a radio play with rock music from 2006.[4]
