Die Lüneburger (also „Die Lüneburger“ gepfeffert und gesalzen) is a senior citizens' cabaret group in Lüneburg, Lower Saxony, Germany, working under the umbrella of the Lüneburg adult education centre (Volkshochschule).[1] Founded in 1990, it writes its own songs and sketches on political, social and personal topics and received the special prize amarena PLUS of the German Amateur Theatre Prize in 2026.[1][2]

History

The group was founded in 1990 at the suggestion of Gerhard Cassens, then head of the Volkshochschule Lüneburg; since then retired people have performed political and social cabaret under the adult education centre's umbrella. It celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2015 and has performed in Braunschweig, Hanover, Berlin, Lingen and on Baltrum, among other places.[1]

Repertoire

Every two years the group brings out a new programme of its own songs and sketches, rehearsed under the direction of the actress Agnes Vogt. Besides the Volkshochschule course, it gives performances on its own initiative and on booking.[1]

Organisation

The group regularly takes part in the Lower Saxony senior theatre meetings (Niedersächsische Senioren-Theatertreffen).[1]

Awards

In 2026 the Bund Deutscher Amateurtheater (BDAT) awarded the group the special prize amarena PLUS of the Deutscher Amateurtheaterpreis. The jury praised its work as showing "how powerful, relevant and moving senior theatre can be".[2]
