„Die Mühlbacher“ Amateurtheater Miehlen 2004 e.V. is an amateur theatre group in Miehlen, Rhein-Lahn-Kreis, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Founded in 2004 as the theatre section of the local Heimatverein, it has been an independent association since 2011 and stages a theatre weekend each April in the Bürgerhaus Miehlen.[1]

History

In 2003 the board of the Heimatverein Miehlen e.V. contacted eleven residents interested in forming a theatre group; after several meetings five remained. They rehearsed a one-act play for the association's annual general meeting in March 2004 and, after its reception there, gave a public performance before an audience of about 180. On 11 March 2004 the actors and the Heimatverein board founded the theatre group, with five amateur actors signing the founding minutes. A theatre weekend has been held each April since then.[1] In 2010 the website described the group as "Die Mühlbacher", the theatre of the Heimatverein Miehlen e.V.[2]

As the Heimatverein faced dissolution, the theatre section held a founding assembly for an independent association on 27 October 2011 at the inn „Zur Rose“, adopting the name „Die Mühlbacher“ Amateurtheater Miehlen 2004 e.V. and gaining several new members.[1]

The theatre weekend of April 2014 marked the group's tenth anniversary, with photo collages and slide shows in the foyer of the Bürgerhaus. After that season the long-time artistic director and stage director left the association; the artistic direction passed to a successor, initially on an interim basis, and the statutes were changed so that it was no longer part of the five-member board. In 2017 the group performed outside Miehlen for the first time, when the carnival club „DeBaGa’sch“ Dessighofen 2010 e.V. booked Neurosige Zeiten as a guest performance in the village hall of Niederbachheim; the group was engaged there again for the following two seasons.[1]

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic the 2020 theatre weekend was cancelled and rehearsals could not take place. In 2021 a small ensemble staged the psychological thriller Die Therapie as a separate theatre project in Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein, and the regular theatre weekend resumed in April 2022 with Mitten im Ort.[3] In January 2021 the association had 36 members, about a third of them available as actors, aged from 18 to over 70 and living in Miehlen and the surrounding area as far as Koblenz.[1]

Repertoire

The group stages its main production of the year at the April theatre weekend; since 2021 it has also staged smaller theatre projects alongside it, beginning with a psychological thriller, and in 2024 it presented its first crime play. In 2022, 2023 and 2025 the main production was a play written by the group's own stage director.[3][4]

Organisation

Since 2008 the group has donated part of its ticket proceeds each year to social and charitable institutions and to the youth sections of clubs in and around Miehlen.[1] In September 2020, when regular rehearsals were impossible, members took part in the workshop "Wir träumen vom Sommer" organised by the Landesverband Amateurtheater Rheinland-Pfalz for its member groups. In October 2021 the group co-presented, and provided the catering for, a performance of I am what I am by the Bartels-Bühne Flammersfeld in the Bürgerhaus of Nastätten, in which its stage director appeared as an actor.[3]
