The Dorfbühne Marktschorgast is an amateur theatre club in the market town of Marktschorgast in the district of Kulmbach, Upper Franconia, Bavaria, Germany. It was founded in 1999 as the theatre section Schorchätzä Theaterstub'n of the sports club ASV Marktschorgast and has been an independent club since 2008, staging one comedy each winter.[1]
History
The idea of a lay theatre group in Marktschorgast arose in May 1999. Its driving forces were Tatjana and Thomas Lengel, who had acting experience from the Naturbühne Trebgast. On 4 June 1999 sixteen people founded the Schorchätzä Theaterstub'n as a new section of the ASV Marktschorgast, with Thomas and Tatjana Lengel as first and second chair. Within four months the stage was renovated and the first play rehearsed; the premiere of Eine fast sündige Nacht took place on 22 October 1999. Until 2007 the section staged one play each autumn. In January 2007 the Lengels handed over the chair to Anja Gemmer and Markus Pfeiffer.[1]
In summer 2008 the theatre group left the sports club and became an independent club under the name Dorfbühne Marktschorgast, with Gemmer and Pfeiffer as chairs. At the same time it moved its season from autumn to winter, so no play was performed in 2008. The first premiere of the new club, the comedy Wechseljahre, took place on 30 January 2009 in the parish hall of the Catholic church of St. Jakobus.[1]
Repertoire
The club performs comedies, farces and boulevard comedies, occasionally crime comedies and dinner crime evenings. For the 2025/26 season the club announced a nostalgic time-travel comedy set in the 1980s, with tickets on sale from 7 December 2025.[1][2]
