The Edelhoftheater e. V. (also Edelhoftheater Kirrweiler) is an amateur theatre group in Kirrweiler in the Palatinate, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Founded in 2001 and named after the village's Edelhof, it stages boulevard comedies and its own versions of classic plays, many written by a team of its members, and since 2019 has played open-air in summer in the parish garden of Kirrweiler.[1][2]

History and repertoire

The group was founded in 2001. Its ensemble performs boulevard comedies and major classics and prefers to write its own versions of plays; a permanent team of authors, including the director Bodo Redner, writes a new piece each year. The group also runs a children's and youth theatre.[1]

For its tenth anniversary in 2011 the group staged the comedy Wer hat schon Angst vor Dr. Wolf? by the Palatinate author Andreas Heck at the Edelhof; the regional newspaper Die Rheinpfalz wrote that the audience was "doubled up with laughter".[3] In 2016 it performed a black-humoured comedy thriller about a family of hired killers meeting to divide an inheritance.[4] Its 2025 production, Helden & Jungfrauen, a fantasy parody, was written in six weeks by Andreas Braun, Carsten Holthousen, Christian Matow and Bodo Redner.[5] For its 25th anniversary in 2026 the group staged a new piece, Ein Funke genügt!, in which characters from earlier productions reappear.[6]

Venue

The group has performed at the Edelhof in Kirrweiler and at times in neighbouring Maikammer. Since 2019 its summer productions have taken place open-air in the parish garden (Pfarrgarten) in the Kirchstraße.[2][6]
