Emser Theater

From Amateur Theatre Wiki

In the municipality of Domat/Ems (until 1943: Ems[1]) in the Canton of Graubünden, Switzerland, there has been a long tradition of amateur theatre from mid-19th century on that lasts until today. The performances got very popular and the "Emser Theater" (Engl. Theatre in Ems) was well-known in the region.[2]

History

The earliest reference of a Liebhabertheater (Engl. amateur theatre) in Ems dates from 1843.[3] Various associations, choirs, and other groups in Ems regularly performed historical or patriotic plays.

In 1971, the Theaterverein Domat/Ems (Engl. Theatre Association Domat/Ems) was founded and is active until today.

Venues

Over time, several venues were in use for theatre performances in Ems (or Dormat/Ems). For example, from 1895 the "Glashüttensaal" served as a performance space, a venue which today doesn't exist anymore.[3]
