The Förderkreis TheaterBrettl Vilsbiburg e. V. is an amateur theatre association that runs its own small theatre, the TheaterBrettl, in the town of Vilsbiburg in the district of Landshut, Lower Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 2013, it stages comedies, more serious plays and an annual fairy-tale production for children, complemented by guest performances and readings.[1]

History and venue

The association was founded in 2013 by eleven members on the initiative of Herbert Forster, who wanted to create an unusual venue for varied theatre in Vilsbiburg. In its founding year it rented the first floor of the former "11er Haus" in the Untere Stadt, previously the Metropolis discotheque, and volunteers converted it into a theatre. A particular feature of the TheaterBrettl is that productions can use two levels, an upper and a lower stage. By 2026 the association had staged around 30 full-length productions, and in July 2026 it had about 160 members.[2]

Repertoire

Herbert Forster directed most productions in the early years; later directors include Ulrike Klaus, Ulrich Zobel, Stefan H. Dietrich and Elisabeth Makepeace. Besides the productions listed below, the programme has included satirical Christmas readings and other readings.[3]
