The Figurentheater Kladderadatsch is an amateur puppet theatre from Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1992 by Christine Müller and Angelika Albrecht-Schaffer, it is a touring theatre that mixes puppetry with live acting and performs mainly for children in libraries, kindergartens and at Christmas markets. Since 2013 Albrecht-Schaffer has continued it on her own, and since 2021 she has also performed lambe-lambe theatre for a single spectator.[1]
History
The theatre was founded in 1992 and celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2012.[1][2] It has appeared several times at the amateur meeting of the puppetry festivals in Wiesbaden and in Herrenberg, and regularly at KLAPPS, the small Augsburg puppetry festival.[1] For its 24th year, from November to December 2016, it held an exhibition of its puppets at the Galerie am Graben in Augsburg, with a puppet-building workshop, an introduction to shadow theatre and a performance for kindergarten children.[3]
Repertoire
The theatre's stories are based on children's stories, fairy tales, fables and everyday experiences, with marionettes, hand, rod, mouth and table puppets and objects, all designed and built in its own workshop. The performances involve the audience without being participatory theatre, and after the show children may look at the puppets more closely.[1] Its productions include Die Prinzessin auf der Erbse (1996), Die verschwundene Kugel (2000), Des Kaisers neue Kleider (2004), Felix der Zauberlehrling (2007), Rotkäppchen, der Wolf und die sieben Geißlein (2009), Ein Bräutigam für Fräulein Maus, Dornröschen and Der Löwe und das Mäuschen.[2][4]
Lambe-lambe theatre
Since 2021 Albrecht-Schaffer has performed lambe-lambe theatre, a Brazilian miniature form in which a story is played inside a small box for one spectator at a time, and calls her offer the first Augsburg puppet theatre for one spectator. Her piece Tante Ernas Handtasche – suchen, erinnern, vergessen, on the subject of dementia, was invited to the Festilambe festival in Valparaíso, Chile, in 2024, as the only production from Europe. In 2025 it was shown at the ANIMANECO festival in Joinville, Brazil, in the fringe programme of the Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes in Charleville-Mézières, and on a tour of five Bulgarian cities.[5]
Awards
- 2019: Dornröschen was nominated for the Fritz Wortelmann Prize of the city of Bochum.[1]
- 2023: Die Wasserprinzessin won second prize at Larifari, the Bavarian amateur theatre award.[1]
- 2025: Albrecht-Schaffer received an honorary award of the Fritz Wortelmann Prize for Tante Ernas Handtasche and for more than 30 years of work for the amateur puppetry scene.[5]
Organisation
Angelika Albrecht-Schaffer is a member of UNIMA and chairs the puppetry district (Bezirk Figurentheater) of the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater e. V. She has also published books on theatre and puppetry with children.[1]
