Freie Bühne Braunschweig – Theater bei AntiRost e.V. is an amateur theatre group in Braunschweig, Lower Saxony, Germany.[1] Formerly called Neue Bühne Braunschweig, it stages classic and modern plays, mostly under professional directors, and rehearses at the AntiRost association in Braunschweig's Westliches Ringgebiet.[2]

History

By around 2019 the group had existed for almost ten years and had performed modern and classic plays in changing casts. In 2014 its members decided to turn it into a registered non-profit association, and it was renamed from Neue Bühne Braunschweig to Freie Bühne Braunschweig – Theater bei AntiRost e.V.. It has been a member of the Amateurtheaterverband Niedersachsen e. V. since its foundation and has taken part several times in the association's regional and state theatre festivals. Project funding from the city of Braunschweig and other sponsors has allowed it to work with professional directors.[2][3]

Repertoire

The group's repertoire includes Eugène Ionesco's Die Nashörner, Sönke Andresen's Der letzte Pinguin, Dirk Zellmer's Die seltsame Gräfin after Edgar Wallace, Sławomir Mrożek's Das Martyrium des Piotr O'Hey, Ephraim Kishon's Der Betrüger, Reginald Rose's Die zwölf Geschworenen, Shoppen (after the film by Ralf Westhoff), short plays by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, Nikolai Gogol's Der Revisor, Mary Chase's Mein Freund Harvey, Walter G. Pfaus's Die Theaterprobe and Lutz Hübner's Gretchen 89 ff.[4] The Dürrenmatt short plays were staged by SchauSpielStart, a joint project with the Studio Bühne Braunschweig.[4]
