The Hagelstädter Theaterfreunde e. V. is an amateur theatre association in Hagelstadt in the district of Regensburg, Upper Palatinate, Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1979, it stages comedies, folk plays, crime plays and musicals, among them a production of My Fair Lady for its 40th anniversary in 2019.[1]
History
The association was founded in 1979 by fifteen people. Its first season in 1979 comprised four one-act plays and Der bekehrte Hausdrach'.[2][3] In 2019 it celebrated its 40th anniversary with the musical My Fair Lady by Frederick Loewe and Alan Jay Lerner, after George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion.[1] After a long break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the group returned to the stage in November 2023 with seven performances in the multi-purpose hall (Mehrzweckhalle) in Hagelstadt, for which the local volunteer fire brigade provided the safety watch.[4] In 2026 the association took a break and staged no production, announcing a return for 2027.[5]
Repertoire
From 1979 to 2023 the association staged productions, often several per year in the early decades: Bavarian folk plays such as Brandner Kaspar (staged in 1994, 1995 and 2004), Der Sternsteinhof and Die Geierwally, boulevard comedies and crime plays, operetta and musicals such as Im Weissen Rössl (2005, 2006) and My Fair Lady, as well as revues, concerts and youth theatre.[3] A children's and youth section also provides players, for example for the nativity play at the children's Christmas Mass.[6]
