Helden von heute e.V. is an amateur musical theatre and drama group based in Enkenbach-Alsenborn, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.[1] Founded in 2017, it brings together amateur performers and trained guest artists and has premiered the fantasy musical trilogy Lycantropia.[2][3]
History
The group was founded on 1 May 2017 as "Helden von heute – freie Theatergruppe für Musical und Schauspielproduktionen" by seven founding members, and began rehearsing its first, name-giving musical in the same month.[2][4] Its participants have come from many parts of Germany; a 2019 press notice named, among other places, Kaiserslautern, Mainz, Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, Koblenz and Bonn.[5]
Until November 2020 the group's musicals were co-productions with the musical working group of the IGS Anna Seghers, a comprehensive school in Mainz; after that the group continued as an independent cultural organisation. Further performances of Lycantropia – Es wird Nacht… planned for 2020 in Enkenbach were cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and a project planned for summer 2021 was also cancelled.[2]
Membership grew from 25 at the end of 2017 to 35 in December 2018, 63 in December 2019 and 75 in December 2022; the 100th member joined in May 2024.[2]
Repertoire
The group stages mainly new musicals, most of them written by Manuel Buch, with soloists, choir, band and, since 2022, an orchestra; it has also staged a film-music revue with its choir and dance ensemble.[4][6] Its agent musical Helden von heute – ein Leben für die Menschheit was described in the regional press as a pop-rock piece alluding to spy films.[5] The Lycantropia trilogy follows the character Amanda from childhood to her career as a writer; the third part premiered in July 2026.[6][3]

Organisation
The association is organised by project and divided into five departments: acting, dance, design, technology and social media, and the vocal and instrumental ensemble. Members may propose and run their own smaller projects such as concerts or workshops.[1] Besides its musicals the group has given dance performances at the Lange Nacht der Kultur in Kaiserslautern (2023), held acting workshops in Mainz (2023) and taken part in local fair parades.[2] In March 2026 its soloists performed excerpts from all three Lycantropia musicals in the spring concerts of the Katholische Vereinskapelle Enkenbach, one of them at the SWR studio in Kaiserslautern.[8]
The productions have been funded with the support of, among others, the EU LEADER programme, the Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz Stiftung, the Sparkasse Kaiserslautern and the series "Musik im Kreis" of the district of Kaiserslautern.[4]
