The Institut für Jugendarbeit Gauting is the central further-education institution of the Bavarian Youth Council (Bayerischer Jugendring, BJR) in Gauting, Bavaria, Germany. It runs seminars and conferences for professionals in youth work, including a programme of theatre-education courses.[1]

History

The institute is housed in a neoclassical villa built in 1923 for the Jewish Jucht family. After its expropriation by the Nazis it passed to Hugo Junkers, whose family lived there until 1945. After the war the American military requisitioned the building for the UNRRA; in 1952 the Free State of Bavaria bought it and let it to UNESCO for an institute for youth questions. The Bavarian Youth Council has used the estate since 1965. The Institut für Jugendarbeit opened in 1967, initially training youth workers; with a new concept under its director Roland Feldmann it restarted in November 1972 as a centre for training and further education of staff in youth work, beginning with 11 seminars in 1973.[2]

Theatre and cultural education

Among the institute's programme areas is "Kultur und Theater", with practical seminars in cultural education, theatre-education seminars such as acting training and method acting, and modular additional qualifications in theatre education (Theaterpädagogik) and cultural education.[3]

Venue

The institute's conference centre in the villa includes a conference hall, group rooms and a guest house with 42 beds.[2]
