The kleine bühne seelze is an amateur theatre group in Seelze in the Hanover Region, Lower Saxony, Germany, and one of the oldest amateur theatre groups in the region.[1] Founded in 1946 as a church drama circle, it took its present name in 1978 and stages traditional comedies and boulevard plays.[2]
History
In 1946 Gustav Klemme, a deacon at the Martinskirche in Seelze, founded the Evangelischer Laienspielkreis Seelze, which began with nativity plays in the church and then moved into conventional amateur theatre. At the end of the 1950s Helmut Kretschmann took over the group for many years, during which it specialised in farces and comedies of mistaken identity. In 1978 the group renamed itself kleine bühne seelze and adopted a more professional approach to technology, organisation and rehearsals; it now staged full-length plays in larger halls as far away as Gehrden, Wennigsen and Hanover. From the early 1990s Andi Trapp directed the group and added plays with a more serious background, such as Lutz Hübner's Blütenträume and Thea Dorn's Marleni (2012/2013).[2]
After the Protestant parish hall, its long-time rehearsal and storage space, was demolished and rebuilt, the group had to move repeatedly. Andi Trapp died in January 2018, and direction passed to Sabine Stiller. During the COVID-19 pandemic the group paused from 2021 to 2024 and found a permanent rehearsal room provided by the Catholic church in Seelze.[2] In 2026 it celebrated its 80th anniversary with the premiere of Gärtner sterben stets im Herbst.[1]
