The Kleines Theater Prien e. V. is an amateur theatre group in Prien am Chiemsee, in the district of Rosenheim, Bavaria, Germany. It grew out of an adult education (VHS) course in 1984 and is known for the fairy-tale play it stages each year shortly before Christmas.[1]
History
According to its long-time former chairman Peter Tarkusch, the group originated in a Volkshochschule course; its first production was Das tapfere Schneiderlein in the local Realschule. After its first fairy-tale productions it also tried boulevard comedy. At its 30th anniversary celebration in the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Prien, the vice-president of the Verband Bayerischer Amateurtheater e. V., Brigitte Gstöttl, honoured members including founding member Bettina Weller; the chair at the time was Jasmin Braun.[1] After its 40th anniversary season in 2024 the group took a creative break in 2025 and announced a return for Advent 2026 with a new version of Rumpelstilzchen.[2] In 2021 it ran a pilot "touring theatre" project with An der Arche um Acht.[2]
Repertoire
Apart from a few comedies in its early years, such as Trimm Dich Liebling (1985), Ein Heiratsantrag and Herbst (1986), Der Trauschein (1987) and Die Perle Anna (1992), the group plays fairy tales and children's plays, one each winter.[2]
